Book Review – It Happened in Italy
It Happened in Italy by Elizabeth Bettina is a heart warming collection of stories about Jews in Italy during World War II. Unlike the horrible treatment that so many Jew received in other areas of Europe, In Italy the Jews were taken care of, protected, and against Nazi orders were treated well thoughout the war. Bettina spends time developing many stories of the people that were cared for and were doing the caretaking.
This book brings out one of the true good stories that so many are unaware of (including me). My only criticism of the book is that there really is no additional story other than the niceness of the Italians to the Jews. That’s it. Once you get the there isn’t much more.
