I struggle with understanding my faith. It’s not that I don’t know what I believe, who I think God is, what that means to me, etc. It’s more of a struggle because religious language is filled with pitfalls and chances to misunderstand things.
I’ve also struggled a lot with spending more time explaining what I DON’T mean about faith than what I do. In a world deeply scarred by the “religious” that can be a challenge.
So I’ve worked on different ways to express my faith over the years. This is the most recent attempt to be brief and comprehensive at the same time:
Greg’s Manifesto
God is the one I follow.
I don’t need anything else.
He gives me rest.
He leads me to be refreshed.
He brings healing in my deepest places.
He shows me the way to honor Him.
In the darkest hours of life I am not afraid because I am with Him.
He allows me to be comfortable in any setting.
He lifts me when I am down.
He provides everything.
Beauty and love surround me.
I will live with Him forever.
Many will recognize it as a simple paraphrase of Psalm 23. For me it embodies everything that I need to know or understand about God, me, and life.
Keep moving forward,
Greg
